"I've felt the wind, but I'll never forget the first time I saw it. No, not the awful power it embodied, nor the after-effects of its passing, but rather wind personified. It was an Elemental, undoubtedly, who walked (I shouldn't say walked, as it was truly more of a waft) to me and greeted me with a calming sound. It did not speak per say, but it left me with a visage of its people, the Aviat, a tall, proud race who live atop the Peaked Mountains. Our exchange was brief as the wind drifted on (as wind does), but as it passed I found myself coated in its peoples' element; pure Air Dust. For the rest of the day I felt like I was light as a feather. Truly, these Aviatos have harnessed something incredible."

-Vernin's Travels Vol. I

The Aviat Elemental known as Vahju.

The Aviat are a people who worship the skies. They long for destiny, adventure, and freedom. Physically the Aviat are tall with long arms and long legs, tan skin, and dark hair. They have very pronounced facial features; noses, cheek bones, etc.

The Aviat have found that both genders of their race were not created equal. While both males and females have particularly low stamina with their long, lanky frames, it seems that they are both benefited in extremely different aspects. Females appear to be much faster and adept with bow and the elements while males find themselves with much more strength, allowing them to deal more martial damage with blade or fist. The males also seem to have an extra sense of wit about them, using their tongues to get out of more trouble then their fists.

With them, the Aviat carry around a pouch of what is commonly referred to as "Air Dust," a magical substance that grants the Aviat to harness its energy and use it to jump extremely high, hover, and (the most skilled of Aviatos) to fly. It is also capable of creating very weak illusions, fooling most commonfolk and even some sharper denizens of the continent. They are natural-born hunters, but never take their place in the world for granted.

[edit] Racial Abilities

  • High Jump—Jump an extreme distance into the air using your Air Dust. In battle, you may use this to avoid melee attacks by hovering for 1d4 turns once per session. Outside of battle it may be used to attempt to reach otherwise unreachable heights, but a percentile role must be made to have it be successful. You can only make ranged attacks and cast spells while hovering during your High Jump.
  • Agility (Female Only)—An enhancement that grants you or an ally +5 AGI modifier for 1d4 turns (or 15 minutes outside of battle) using your Air Dust. Three time use per session.
  • Charm (Male Only)—A veil that grants you or an ally a +5 CHA modifier for 15 minutes (or 1d4 turns in battle) using your Air Dust. Two time use per session.

Note: Elementals are completely exempt from needing Air Dust to access their Racial Abilities as they are capable of all their feats without it.

[edit] Classes

[edit] Huntress

The Aviatos are known for their hunting prowess. However, it is not their stronger male counterparts who possess the dexterity and agility to hide, sneak, and fight from a distance, but rather the females. A Huntress's real strength, however, lies in her ability to charm wild creatures for limited amounts of time (and at higher levels, permanently), granting them a distraction while the Huntress falls back to deal damage from afar. Like all Aviat, the Huntress has a bit of flying capability, but not nearly as much as other classes.

[edit] Pacifist

Unlike their female counterparts, many male Aviats live by the logic that their "Words speak louder than their actions". As such, those who do not take up lives as Wingushae or Elementals tend to live peaceful lives with their families while the Huntresses do what is necessary for their families survival. There are some, however, who take it upon themselves to bring peace in non-leathal fashions as to remain valiant, prestigious figures to the people in the lives they left behind. They give themselves no name, by the are widely regarded as Pascifists due to their ability to render even their toughest foes unconcious with their fists and their ability to mediate, even in the middle of the fray. Most prefer not to use a weapon, but the few who do tend to use blunt objects such as saps and staffs.

[edit] Gust

Winogushae, or as they are more lovingly known by the rest of Hatrin, "Gusts," have been known to control wind currents, thus being able to control their direction, ability, and prowess of flying at higher levels. When found in combat, the Gusts are known to use resources around them, using gusts of wind to knock down nearby objects to injure their foes, blind them, or even, if lucky, the Gusts have been known to defeat their opponents instantly at higher levels, when they control the power to remove the oxygen from the air completely, suffocating their enemies.

[edit] Elemental

The Elementals (more specifically, Air Elementals) of the Aviat have spent their whole lives meditating on the air, breath, and the flow of life. Because of this coherent focus, these Aviatos have created a pact with the air, turning them into a sort of essence of wind, granting them constant levitation, and later constant flight. They literally are the wind. Because of this, they are able to move through tight spaces with ease, as well as stay hidden rather easily. Because of their etherealness, however, they are unable to interact with items and weapons (unless otherwise stated), using merely their essence to damage their foes. However, because of their state, they are more resistant to damage, and, with the proper resources, they can add additional damage by including ingredients from the world around them (dust, rocks, water, etc). Elementals do not use Air Dust.
