Rivalry Campaign 3: The Fall of Hatrin
From Rampedia
Rivalry is a role-playing game created by Allan primarily for him and his forum-goers.
Rivalry takes place in a fictional universe, on a fictional planet known as Ladis. The game, currently preparing to run its third campaign, focuses on the continent Hatrin and a small group of players.
The game comprises of various game elements, some resembling Dungeons and Dragons, some resembling popular MMORPGs.
Players begin by following a various amount of steps that Allan sets up on Rivalry's forum. As they make their way through the process, they will develop their character's name, race, class, history, skills, statistics, basic weapons, basic armors, and eventually their own character pages. Finally, once the characters are made, the group will meet up in an IRC room entitled #rivalry and begin a session once the GM deems it so. The game can range anywhere from 2 hours to 7 hours (7 being the longest-to-date play time thus far), and the group of players may dwindle down, but the game, if enough players wish to go on, may continue. Usually, at the end of every play session the GM rewards the characters somehow, mayhap for a job well-done. The game is currently under development for it's second edition.
The game is played in a chat room via IRC. The players use a dice-rolling bot to roll for things like attacks, dodges, and other various actions. The players keep their character sheets open in a local word processor and keep track of their HP, MN, items, experience, and other various details.

[edit] The Rules
While actually gameplay rules are limited only by imagination, there are a few rules in Rivalry which all players should be aware of:
- Don't be a dick
- Stay on task
- Don't spam
- Pay THE FUCK attention
- You MUST do what your Team Leader tells you to.
- Listen to the Game Master and don't interrupt him when he's narrating.
- Looting is round-robin and special items are rolled for on a need/greed basis.
[edit] Plot
The plot of Rivalry, season 2, is still mostly a mystery. However, for the point of people developing their characters, the second campaign starts as such:
- There is no sign on the door in front of you—only a slot for two eyes to peek through. You reread the note in your hand, carefully.
- "To make a difference, visit the dockhouse after midnight."
- The letters are scrawled quickly, carelessly planned out.
- Instinctively you knock on the door. As your fist slams down for a third time the slot hurredly opens and two cloudy eyes peer through. The eyes look up and down your body and stop on the note in your hand. Immediately they fall behind the shutted slot and disappear.
- The door in front of you clicks and then swings open in a hurried manner. A short man with curly, black hair beckons you in with a flick of his wrist.
- Inside you see a room, dimly lit, with a circle of men and women sitting on stools, surrounding a map. Their heads peek up at you as you enter.
- Out of nowhere a tall man with dirty blonde hair and a black, stubbly beard approaches you. He greets you with a warm smile, exclaiming, "Ah! You made it! Now we can begin."
- "Welcome," he says, "to the Defenders of Hatrin."
